London Metropolitan Archives

If you have ancestors who lived or works in London, you should pay a visit to the London Metropolitan authority (LMA), the largest local authority records office in the United Kingdom.

Its archives are said to cover more than 52 kilometres (32 miles) – that most be one big basement – and they deal with a period of 900 years: council records; court records; hospital records; Poor Law records; parish registers; school registers; Nonconformist records; electoral registers; wills; maps; plans; prints and photographs. Its Family History sources are on a database called London Generations., enabling you to search quickly. The LMA is an invaluable source.
