Step-by-Step Guide


It may be that you have no living relatives and are forced, for whatever reason, to start from scratch. Here is a quick step-by-step guide to get your Genealogy study up and running.

Kick-start Research

  1. Retrieve your birth certificate, which will give your parent’s names or, at the very least, your mother’s maiden name.
  2. From this work out an approximate date of marriage and obtain the certificate.
  3. Among other things, this will give your parent’s ages and the names and occupation of their fathers = your grandfathers.
  4. From the marriage certificate calculate the respective dates of birth of your mother and father, and obtain a birth certificate for whichever branch of the family you wish to pursue.
  5. This birth certificate will give you the names of your grandparents. Return to step 2.
