Start Genealogy
Step-by-Step Guide
It may be that you have no living relatives and are forced, for whatever reason, to start from scratch. Here is a quick step-by-step guide to get your Genealogy study up and running.
Kick-start Research
- Retrieve your birth certificate, which will give your parent’s names or, at the very least, your mother’s maiden name.
- From this work out an approximate date of marriage and obtain the certificate.
- Among other things, this will give your parent’s ages and the names and occupation of their fathers = your grandfathers.
- From the marriage certificate calculate the respective dates of birth of your mother and father, and obtain a birth certificate for whichever branch of the family you wish to pursue.
- This birth certificate will give you the names of your grandparents. Return to step 2.
